Kamishibai means “paper theatre” and for centuries it has been a very popular and traditional form of storytelling in Japan. Kamishibai fascinates the audience. The characteristics of this kind of theatre and the way it is displayed help to create a magic effect and total concentration.
A Kamishibai performance is carried out by placing the cards in order on a small stand/slot at the base of the theatre, facing the audience and passing the cards to the back, one after another, while reading the text. The cards have a picture on one side and text on the other.
